Mazda Car Corporation has had an interesting history beyond all car companies. Starting as a Japanese cork production facility during the 1920s, it moved into being an industrial company which in 1931 created the first motorized tri-cycle trucks. In 1960 Mazda developed the first rotary engine & the Mazda R360 Coupe which was one of the first passenger cars built in the company. Following the success for the R100 and the RX models, the 1970's lead Mazda's Japanese corporation to starting a branch in the United States. After decades of fall back that followed for Mazda, they eventually looked into alternative engine designs like the Miller cycle engine.
